Promotion Committee of Young Researchers Development

Through advanced and leading research as well as education, the University of Tsukuba aims to contribute extensively to the progress of society. To accomplish this goal, one of the most important tasks is to secure and develop young excellent human resources. It may be no exaggeration to say that the source of the university’s vitality exist due to the fact that young faculty members have developed freely through their own individual personalities and strong ability.
Aiming at improving the independent research environment for young researchers maximizing the use of their ability, all departments of the University of Tsukuba have promoted both “Tsukuba Style” tenure track system and the “Focused Support Style” called “Initiative to train young researchers who will lead the next generation” supported by Promotion Coordination Fund since the fiscal year of 2007. In the fiscal year of 2011, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) started the “Program to Disseminate the Tenure Tracking System" to promote further establishment of the tenure track system. The University of Tsukuba was selected for this program at the proposal of the “New Tsukuba Style” tenure track system. The “New Tsukuba Style” makes use of both funding by MEXT and the university’s own resources, maintaining the accumulated management system by the “Initiative to train young researchers who will lead the next generation”, and the feature is the possibility of selecting a career path after obtaining the tenure from the three models of: Standard Type, Promotion Type, and Accelerated Promotion Type. The approach will allow the ability to respect the personality of young researchers more and will establish further detail to the tenure tracking system according to each department concept for the future human resources. From 2015, we narrowed these models to "Promotion type" and "Accelerated Promotion Type", and developed the system which promotes more excellent young researchers.
I would like those involved to further understand and fully support our development of young human resources based on the tenure track system.
